Getting in the Air: Hovering Side-in

When you can reliably hover tail-in the next step is to turn the helicopter so one side or the other is facing you. When this happens the controls change:

  1. Left and right is now controlled by the elevator stick (right stick up and down) .
  2. Forward and back is now controlled by the aileron stick (right stick left and right) .

At first hovering side-in seems really difficult. But you can do it. Since mistakes inevitably will be made, a fixed pitch (FP) helicopter, such as the Honey Bee FP in the video below, will suffer far less crash damage than a more complex collective pitch (CP) bird.
